


Return to Gallery	Surfing Apes 8’x55’ Lafayette, Colorado Young Ryan was pumped about monkeys, pirates, and surfing. He was the client and he got what he wanted. The layout was of course determined by door and window location, and we had to consider where his bunk beds were going. That left one clear wall on which I so enjoyed painting the big wave breaking with the crazy chimp riding it with style. The wall with all the apes was where his bunkbed was going, so I paid less attention to detail that was going to be covered, and more attention to planting a gorilla reading a book right next to Ryan while he was in bed. Of course, at night the gorilla needed the capuchin holding the flashlight so he could keep reading after Ryan fell asleep. Behind Ryan’s pillow he could peer down into a cove where a pirate has just made a landing, no doubt following the course set out on the map hanging over the closet doors. More apes, some surfing, some swinging, round out the composition. More
