About The Artist

Jeff Maxim received a Bachelor in Fine Arts from Cornell University , NY , in 1988, where he studied traditional painting and masters under the tutelage of some of the most renowned instructors in the country. His early studies and apprenticeships, as well as interests in architectural history, led him to reside in Rome , Italy , in the late 1980s, an experience to this day that continues to inspire much of his work.

After graduating from Cornell, Maxim moved to Boulder , Colorado , where he enjoyed a successful career as a freelance illustrator. During that time, Maxim designed and completed dozens of murals, fine-art painting, commercial illustrations, and more. His work has appeared numerous publications, including a prestigious finalist award from Artist Magazine for painting of the year.

In 1996, Maxim brought his creative skills to the corporate world, starting Event Décor Inc., an event-design business dedicated to transforming large-scale parties into exciting thematic events. Over the next 8 years, Maxim conceived, designed and executed hundreds of events for clients that included Qwest, UBS Paine Webber, Anheuser Busch, as well as local businesses and individuals. Maxim and his Event Décor staff ultimately produced more than 30 major murals (most larger than 10x20 feet), dozens of major architectural backdrops, and fabricated such exotic items as a twelve-foot-stone African God statue, a wild-west frontier town, and a 16-foot replica of the famed Arc de Triomphe.

Realizing that he missed his weekends too much, in 2004 Maxim gave up special events and has turned back to his roots and his true passion: The designing and painting of custom murals.

Beyond his accomplishments as an artist, Maxim is a master carpenter and cabinet maker. Today, he lives and works from his North Boulder studio and, during the warmer months, is a coach for the Boulder High School lacrosse team.
